About the Position

The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) invites applications for two (02) posts of Assistant Professor of Operative Dentistry (BS-18) on a contract basis for a period of three (3) years — extendable on good performance — in the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department, Government of Punjab.

This is a prestigious academic position in Pakistan's public dental education system. Assistant Professors of Operative Dentistry train the next generation of dental surgeons, provide specialist restorative dental care, and contribute to clinical research at government dental colleges and teaching hospitals across Punjab.

Qualification

Primary Requirements:

Candidates must possess:

  1. BDS or equivalent dental qualification recognized by PMDC/PMC.
  2. Postgraduate qualification: MDS in the relevant subject (Operative Dentistry) or other equivalent qualification recognized by PMDC/PMC.

Note: Teaching experience will be preferred, and credit will be given for original research work published in a standard medical/dental journal.

Alternative Qualification Paths:

If no candidates with the above qualification are available, then:

Path A (Postgraduate Minor Diploma):

  • BDS or equivalent dental qualification recognized by PMDC/PMC, AND
  • Postgraduate minor Diploma in the relevant subject (Operative Dentistry) recognized by PMDC/PMC, AND
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience in the relevant subject as Demonstrator in a recognized institution after postgraduate qualification.
  • Credit will be given for original research work published in a standard medical/dental journal.

Path B (No Postgraduate Diploma — Experience Only):

  • BDS or equivalent dental qualification recognized by PMDC/PMC, AND
  • Ten (10) years of teaching experience as Demonstrator in the relevant subject, AND
  • At least three (3) research papers published in a standard dental/medical journal.

Higher Qualification Preferences

Candidates with the following qualifications are strongly preferred:

  • MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) in Operative Dentistry
  • Postgraduate minor Diploma in Operative Dentistry

Age Limit

  • Male: 25 to 45 years + 5 years general relaxation = 50 years
  • Female: 25 to 45 years + 8 years general relaxation = 53 years

Documents Required for Eligibility

  1. Valid CNIC — must not be expired on the last day of online application.
  2. Matriculation / O Level certificate — showing date of birth and obtained/total marks.
  3. Intermediate / A Level certificate — showing obtained/total marks.
  4. All Professional BDS certificates — issued by the Controller of Examinations from a university recognized by HEC.
    • DMCs (Detailed Marks Certificates) of all relevant degrees — issued on or before the closing date, showing obtained/total marks or a Percentage Certificate from the Controller of Examinations — are mandatory if the degree shows only CGPA. PPSC does not accept CGPA.
    • For equivalent qualifications, candidates must obtain equivalence from HEC or QEDC of the concerned administrative department well before the written test / interview.
  6. Domicile Certificate — of any district of Punjab, issued on or before the closing date.
  7. Postgraduate degree:
    • MDS in Operative Dentistry — or equivalent qualification from a PMDC/PMC-recognized institute, showing result notification date declared on or before the closing date;
    • OR, if no MDS candidate is available, postgraduate minor Diploma in Operative Dentistry recognized by PMDC/PMC — with three (3) years of original experience certificate as Demonstrator showing teaching work in Operative Dentistry after postgraduation;
    • OR, if neither is available, ten (10) years of original experience certificate as Demonstrator showing teaching work in Operative Dentistry, with at least three (3) research papers published in a standard dental/medical journal.
  9. PMDC/PMC Registration — showing requisite qualifications, valid up to the closing date. If expired, proof of renewal must be submitted on or before the closing date.
  10. Departmental Permission Certificate — on the prescribed PPSC-5 proforma, duly signed and stamped by the Appointing / Competent Authority (in case of Government, Semi-Government, or Autonomous body employees).
  11. Equivalence Certificate — from PMDC or QEDC of the concerned administrative department, as applicable.
  12. Disability Certificate — for special persons, from the Provincial Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons, Social Welfare Department, issued on or before the closing date.

Experience Verification Rules

Teaching experience is scrutinized strictly. Candidates should note:

  • Only teaching experience in a recognized institution, issued by the appointing authority / PMDC / PMC after the prescribed qualification, is considered. It must clearly mention:
    • Designation
    • Pay Scale
    • Field
    • Nature of experience
    • Duration
    • Experience certificates must be supported with appointment letters, notifications, or office orders.
  • Government Sector experience (Contract, Current Charge, Acting Charge, Ad-hoc) is accepted only if issued by the Appointing / Competent Authority, PMDC, or PMC.
  • OPS/Designated basis (up to 17.06.2021 only), BOM (Board of Management), TTS (Tenure Track System), University Cadre, etc., will only be considered if recognized and issued by PMDC/PMC.
  • In such cases, candidates must provide their total experience from PMDC/PMC. Separate certificates from the Appointing Authority and PMDC/PMC will not be consolidated.
  • Foreign/Autonomous/Private Institution experience is accepted only if recognized and issued by PMDC/PMC.

It covers fillings, crowns, bridges, root canal treatments, cosmetic restorations, and the management of dental caries and tooth wear.
