About the Position

The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) invites applications for two (02) posts of Senior Registrar Paediatrics Gastroenterology (BS-18) on a contract basis for a period of three (3) years in the Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department, Government of Punjab.

This is a specialized super-specialty clinical position focused on paediatric gastroenterology and hepatology in Punjab's leading public-sector teaching hospitals. It offers experienced paediatricians and paediatric gastroenterologists the opportunity to serve in a high-impact role addressing complex digestive and liver conditions in children.

Qualification

Primary Requirements:

Candidates must possess:

  1. MBBS or equivalent qualification recognized by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC).
  2. Registration with the Pakistan Medical Commission — valid up to the closing date of the advertised post(s), or proof of renewal application submitted on or before the closing date.
  3. FCPS, MD, CCT, or Diplomate American Board in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology — or equivalent qualification recognized by the PMC.

Alternative Qualification Paths:

If no candidates with the above qualification are available, then:

Path A:
FCPS (Paediatrics), MD (Paediatrics), MRCPCH, or Diplomate American Board of Paediatrics — or equivalent qualifications recognized by the PMC — with one (1) year of experience in Paediatric Gastroenterology after post-graduation in Paediatrics obtained in a training program accredited by a National Body (CPSP or University) or an international body from an institute recognized by the PMC.

Path B:
FCPS (Paediatrics), MD (Paediatrics), MRCPCH, or Diplomate American Board of Paediatrics — or equivalent qualifications recognized by the PMC — with two (2) years of experience in Paediatric Gastroenterology after post-graduation in Paediatrics from an institute recognized by the PMC.

Higher Qualification Preferences

Candidates with any of the following qualifications are strongly preferred:

  • FCPS (Paediatrics)
  • MD (Paediatrics)
  • Diplomate of American Board (Paediatrics)
  • MRCPCH
  • CCT (Paediatric Gastroenterology & Hepatology)
  • FCPS (Paediatric Gastroenterology & Hepatology)
  • MD (Paediatric Gastroenterology & Hepatology)
  • Diplomate American Board (Paediatric Gastroenterology & Hepatology)

Age Limit

  • Male: 25 to 45 years + 5 years general relaxation = 50 years
  • Female: 25 to 45 years + 8 years general relaxation = 53 years

Documents Required for Eligibility

  1. Valid CNIC — must not be expired on the last day of online application.
  2. Matriculation / O Level certificate (with IBCC Equivalence Certificate if applicable).
  3. Intermediate / A Level certificate (with IBCC Equivalence Certificate if applicable).
  4. MBBS or equivalent qualification recognized by PMDC/PMC.
  5. Post-graduation degree as specified above.
    • For equivalent qualifications, candidates must obtain equivalence from HEC or QEDC of the concerned department well before the interview.
  7. PMDC/PMC Registration showing requisite qualifications — valid up to the closing date. If expired, proof of renewal must be submitted on or before the closing date.
  8. Practical Experience Certificate from a recognized institution, issued by the appointing authority / PMDC / PMC, clearly mentioning:
    • Designation
    • Pay Scale
    • Field
    • Nature of experience
    • Duration
    • Experience certificates must be supported with appointment letters, notifications, or office orders.
  10. Domicile Certificate — issued on or before the closing date.
  11. Departmental Permission Certificate — for government employees, issued from the appointing authority.
  12. Equivalence Certificates — from HEC or QEDC of the concerned administrative department as applicable.
  13. Disability Certificate — for special persons.

Experience Verification Rules

Experience is scrutinized strictly. Candidates should note:

  • Government Sector experience (Contract, Current Charge, Acting Charge, Ad-hoc) is accepted only if issued by the Appointing / Competent Authority, PMDC, or PMC.
  • OPS/Designated basis (up to 17.06.2021 only), BOM (Board of Management), TTS (Tenure Track System), University Cadre, etc., will only be considered if recognized and issued by PMDC/PMC.
  • In such cases, candidates must provide their total experience from PMDC/PMC. Separate certificates from the Appointing Authority and PMDC/PMC will not be consolidated.
  • Foreign/Autonomous/Private Institution experience is accepted only if recognized and issued by PMDC/PMC.

Exceptions for PMDC/PMC Registration

Candidates who applied to the Pakistan Medical Commission for full registration of their post-graduate qualification on or before the closing date but whose registration certificates were issued after the closing date — or have not yet been issued — may be held eligible provided they produce documentary evidence properly stamped and signed by the competent authority of the PMC confirming they applied before the closing date.

Candidates whose PMC registration was valid on or before the closing date but expired on or before the interview date, and who applied for renewal after the closing date, will still be held eligible.

Why This Role Matters

Paediatric Gastroenterology & Hepatology is one of the rarest and most needed super-specialties in Pakistan. Children with chronic liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, and complex gastrointestinal disorders currently have very limited access to specialized care in the public sector. As a Senior Registrar, you will:

  • Manage complex paediatric GI and liver conditions in government teaching hospitals.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures in children.
  • Supervise postgraduate residents in paediatric training programs.
  • Lead clinical research into paediatric GI and liver disease in Pakistan.
  • Advise on provincial child health policy and training standards.

This is a rare opportunity to build the field of paediatric gastroenterology in Punjab's public health system.
